Session #54: Map to Map

In the last couple weeks--since the expedition that returned Doctor Sontag to the company of his fellow humans in Cothon--if one were to venture into the common room of the tavern Cothon-Under-Star, one would almost surely have found Bartholomew Pettibone and Sesel (Voice of the Survivors) leaning together over a shared table, poring over maps and notes. Finally, after seeming to line up common sections, they announced a desire to lead an expedition back into the Necropolis of the Tel with the intent to correct and collate, and thence to explore even further!

The company who answered this call was as follows:

  • Bartholomew Pettibone (magic-user 6)
    accompanied by Gan ad-Din (fighting-man 4)
  • Durham (fighting-man 6)
    accompanied by Pako (renyu)
  • Sesel (fighting-man 6)
    accompanied by Raoden (magic-user)
  • Avin (magic-user 4)
  • Heijo (magic-user 4)

Returning the way they left, through the southeastern Gate of Mourners, the group made a direct line for Cothon-Under-Star, there to split the spoils retrieved from within the Tel. Durham was seen to be notably short of breath and a little ashen in color; Raoden with a certain daydreaming sparkle to his eyes; and Avin even more brooding than ever, her eyes flashing with dark emotion.

When once again Under-Star, the company commandeered a private room for themselves, and the word from the wine-servers delivering kraters of drink was that a Souffet's ransom had been laid out within, carefully looked over by the appraising eyes of the adventurers.

"Not from any tomb, of course," they claimed. "No, this was taken from the lair of a terrible 'mushent' that had created a place for itself among the crypts."

"Which Durham slew!" the loyal Pako was heard to add.

Raoden, meanwhile, seemed rather taken by a pair of "beautiful ladies" they all had met in the dark passages--beautiful and powerful, as they wielded similar arcane sorceries as half the company did. Those who incautiously asked the youth about these ladies got quite an earful about their dark beauty, their catlike grace, their mysterious powers and purpose--mystery that of course made them all the more alluring!--and got too, their names, murmured by Raoden in his rapture: Srr'ra Heart-Taker and Darryá Shadow-Weaver.

The Lucre

  • 2000 nufdinars (ep) and 5000 fals (cp)
  • a service of silver ewers and goblets, all broken, valued per their weight (200 gp)
  • a wreath of silver asphodels with mother-of-pearl flowers (800 gp)
  • a gold tripod for burning incense, worked with subtle fungal motifs (1000 gp)
  • this weird helm (600 gp):

  • gilt sandals with turquoise-and-nacre-feathered wings at the ankles, holding dilapidated kheshchal-plumes (1500 gp)
  • a jewelry box cut from a geode, with the outside carved with intricate characters of gladiators (4000 gp)
  • the desiccated remains of a strange dark plant with daggerlike leaves and a withered white blossom-head, its stem six feet long; enclosed in the dried petals are a handful of black seeds like small stones (worth perhaps some 9000 gp, but would require the right buyer to get the full value)
  • a gorget of blued steel, set with a dark, almost black, smoldering red gem (magical; it is also psychically reactive)
  • (in jewelry box) a fine chain of gilded links, each link bearing arcane writings; the total length is about three feet in total (a magical "scroll")
  • (in jewelry box, under coiled chain) a psychically active weirdstone, cut to about the size of a marble
  • (also in box) a tumbaga ring shaped like a beaked reptile's head, set with three tiny red gems for its eyes (magical)
  • a heap of scrap metal of strange shapes and unknown alloys
  • a hand-length metal-and-crystal cylinder that "glows" with poisoned light
  • an alien cephalopod in a metal-and-glass tubular pod

The Learning

  • 18150 xp from treasure
  • 534 xp from one "mushent"/"EAT" (500 + hp)
  • 535 from kdaptists x2 (250 + hp ea.)
  • 544 xp from one ru'un (500 + hp)

The Cut

  • 1525 dinars per player-character
762 dinars and 5 dirhams each to Gan ad-Din and Raoden
(again, this could be increased by finding the right buyer for the weird flower)
  • 3953 xp per player-character
1976 xp to Gan ad-Din and Raoden
  • the long withered flower and its glossy black seeds
  • the alien cephalopod in its glass-and-metal tube
  • a heap of scrap metal
  • the cylinder of poisoned light
  • a red-black gem on a steel gorget, smoldering malevolently
  • the magical length of gilt chain
  • marble-sized psychic weirdstone
  • the three-eyed reptile ring

Player-characters who wish to retain any valued items may "buy them out of the pot" with their own gold; as for the remaining items, it is up to the company to see to their division.

And as always, write-ups, art, &c. describing the expedition provided by a player-character to be published here will earn that character 100 xp per level.
