In one of the lesser taverns along the harbor-district of Cothon, a pair of adventurer-foreigners met up to plan their next foray from the city to seek after ancient treasures. Both Althis and Zet Frin have adventured previously with members of the Survivors of the Tel, as well as members of the Kantor Kabljauhof, but neither have yet pledged themselves to any of the Great Taverns.
Having recently sold a second sack of (now-odiferous) chnelh-paws to the Herm & Stone, the pair began discussing the possibility of future adventure. Their talk, however, turned quickly from the oft-visited Tel al Safina to the sprawling ruins of Tsur al Qadim that stretch across the land southeast of Cothon. Their curiosity was piqued by the Tower Invincible, which stands above the ruins seemingly as invincible to time as to the war-engines of the Kzinti in the ancient wars that laid waste old Tsur--and if that Tower still stands, what else might lie hidden or forgotten amongst the ruins?
With such questions burning in their mind, the pair hired a couple of ne'er-do-wells and set out from the Gate of Mourners east, and then south, into old Tsur:
- Zet Frin (magic-user 1)
accompanied by Harrava Rrl (Mrrshan) - Althis (magic-user 2)
accompanied by Warda the Rose (likely lass)
Almost as soon as they had left, it seemed, the quartet had returned to town, much dustier for their excursion, but otherwise bearing no treasure, and nothing to report; rather, they went about at once asking around the taverns seeking ditch-diggers, load-bearers, and others fitted to such hard manual labor, even going so far as to inquire at the slavers' market whether they could "rent" slaves for a time (no, they could not).
In the short notice of the afternoon, a party of about a dozen or so such looking for work were discovered; they were told to roust up any friends or fellows also looking for decent pay over the night, and thence to reassemble the next day at a specific tavern near the eastern gate. Altogether, a party of about thirty gathered the next morning, to be led out east along the Pallbearers' Way and once more into the ruins.
That evening, only half the party returned, led by Althis and allowed to disperse; Althis then went to the taverns of the fighting-societies in the neighborhood of the Arena to seek out men of more martial training, and was able to secure the services of a body of crossbowmen. A day was spent procuring further equipment and supplies, and then Althis and his mercenaries returned once more to the ruins.
In the time since, Harrava Rrl has returned to town, while Zet Frin has also been seen now and again, inquiring in various taverns about "the powers of the mind." Several directed him to Sesel at Cothon-Under-Star, but the man was busy this week giving martial training to someone else. Between the hired workmen and Harrava, rumors have circulated that the pair of magic-users were digging into something in the old ruins (literally), and that with some clever planning and judicious use of oil, were able to ruin the day of a large party of bandits; even now they hold one hostage and hope to discover, through him, the band's "home base". In the meantime, they seem also to have carved out a strong-place for themselves in the ruins near the Tower Invincible ...
