Tax Time & Other News

Indeed, it is that time of the lunar year again, and the first tax season under the new Souffets, Urodas al Arasqiy and Bayzadis al Othmani. Normally, this is a time for barbarian adventurers to pay their fair share into the coffers of the Cities.

But not this year!

Rejoice o! barbarians and denizens and adventurers. For this year, a reprieve has been granted--a tax jubilee--in recognition of bold deeds done in service to the Dual Cities, and for the capture of Fort Bugeater from the Red Cloud's forces and the removal of that stronghold as a threat to the Cities.

No player-characters owe any taxes this year.

The Coreguyi Games Approach

The Coreguyi Games are fast approaching, as well as the Long Wake and Stillest Night before the Games. Those who know him know that Gan ad-Din has been noising interest in getting sponsored as a gladiator to take part in the combat portion of the Games--perhaps others wish to join him in forming a team?

The Games this year are also rumored to be special, in that the Souffets have called a Council of the League to be held after their closure, a Council to finally discuss how to deal with the growing threat of the Kzin warlord the Red Cloud. Souffets and princes and ephors of other cities of the League will be attending the Games personally, and then feted in Gadeed in the courts of the Souffets.

The Red Cloud Lies Low

In regards to the Red Cloud himself and his growing army, recent months have fortunately been quiet and the Red Cloud seems to have been lying low, after his defeat at Fort Bugeater. And yet--is it fortunate? It has allowed a certain breathing space for the people of the cities, but those who are wise fear that this is like a calm before a storm--the Red Cloud seems to be a wily warlord, and is no doubt up to something out beyond the hinterlands, husbanding his strength and perhaps stalking after some advantage not being well looked after by the people of the cities ...

There are rumors that some new effort from the Cities is being considered--rumors fueled by the arrival of the princes of various cities of the Ten Cities' League for the Council called by the Souffets of Cothon-Gadeed. Indeed, there may well be more action for those barbarian adventurers who wish to become further embroiled in this long-simmering conflict.

The Campaign Against Pirates Continues

As spring is in full swing, and the fair sailing weather of the long summer quickly approaches, the Hanse is ramping up its efforts to get ready for the continuation of their military campaign against the Luwian pirates in the east of Dirac's Sea. The captain-general of this campaign, Telman of Tsipa, is preparing to take sail once more to resume command of the forces he left in possession of many of the strongholds of the enemy.

He continues to party late into the night with his favorite dancing-girl / courtesan, Mai'in Khoresha ... and friends of his, like Durham, remain worried that this new turn to a life of dissipation will prove disastrous for him, either in leading to his death directly in the course of the war through carelessness, or through a failure to carry the war to a satisfactory conclusion for the Hanse, which would see him replaced and held in ignominy by other Hansemänner.

The hour for his departure has not yet been decided, but will almost certainly follow closely upon the opening of the new lunar year.
